Using 8start 1.3, if you change a shortcut icon via the properties box when you add it to 8start the icon stays the same. With 1.4 application shortcuts revert to the default in the program file, also 'My Documents'
displays the shell32 icon. any ideas on a work around easier than using Reshacker to change each one?

To implement the transparancy feature in 8start Launcher 1.4, special method have been used to draw the icon. Most of the icon is draw properly without problem, I still working of the solution to solve the problem.
The solution currently is if you change a shortcut icon via the properties box and want it display in 8start Launcher, use the "picture icon" feature to assocaite a .ico file to the button.
May I know what is Reshacker?

Thanks for the tip.
"reshacker" is an old bit of freeware for modifying system files and resources. you can find it at:
www.angusj.com/resourcehacker
Andy, I love 8start - so much more versatile than Apple dockstyle launchers.

I have completed the coding for the crash problem, have to check carefully. I think after I checked, will release the beta 1 version for you all to test. May take less than 24 hours.
The icons will draw base on technique which version 1.3 use, just translate the transparency part using the new technique. It solve the crash problem in some computer, problem of changing icon in shortcut, and the problem of display extra arrow in some icon.
The purple color problem happend in cleartype font setting I got some idea on it, but still thinking for the perfect solution. So may solve it in beta 2

After a long time research, finally I found the way to solve the problem below, please download the beta version, let me know if you have any problem using this beta version.
[Solved]
===========
- Crash in some computer
- Modified icons not able to show
- No more extra arrow in some icon
- tested in TuneUp Utilities 2007
- should able run in Windows Vista (I don't have Windows Vista to test, please let me know the result )
Intruction of using 1.4.1 beta 1
==================================
- You must have version 1.4 installed
- download the 8start Launcher 1.4.1 beta 1 here -> www.8start.com/8start1.4.1beta1.zip (deleted, superceded by final verion 1.4.1)
- unzip and replace the 8start.exe in your computer/flash drive with this one

Thanks Andy!
This has fixed the custom icon problem, though the cleartype issues are still there. Mind you, I only Have one visualstyle where cleartype is needed so its not a problem for me.
